Dirt eaters are silicon based lifeforms. As their name suggests, they eat dirt, which they suck up with their long snouts. Their natural habitat is the desert plains of Trod and the surrounding mountains, caves and tunnels. They have long been domesticated by people, and are used as house cleaners. They have transparent torsos, showing of their internal organs. They're used in biology classes, since much of their insides can be inspected without the need for dissection. However, their legs, feet, neck and head are not transparent, so their entire biology can not be seen from the outside.

Apart from a few subspecies, Dirt Eaters don't seem to have any living relatives or relatives in the fossil record. It is hypothesised that Dirt Eaters entered the world via a phase gale.
