Gingerbread trees are trees that grow in candy biomes like Switlan. Gingerbread wood which comes from gingerbread trees is usually used as a building material in these places. Gingerbread trees are also where gingerbread people come from. They grow from the mature gingerbread tree's branches and when they are fully grown, they pick themselves off the tree. The gingerbreads will form a small tribe with those from the same tree and will leave the tree to hunt for food and explore the wilderness of Switlan. After they are gone, their trees are usually harvested by other creatures of the island.
In Switlan, some gingerbread tribes have become more advanced than others, even to the point of having somewhat of a culture. These tribes know how to make and use tools and some even know a bit of science and mathematics. More advanced gingerbread people decorate their bodies with frosting and other things to indicate what tribe they belong to. They use peppermint axes to chop down vacant gingerbread trees to use for building structures like tables, houses, and shelves. Advanced gingerbread people raise their own orchards of gingerbread trees which will provide them with wood as well as make their tribe grow as the young gingerbreads come out of their trees.
